A huge milestone for females around the world and Formula One as 33-year-old German, Laura Mueller, is stepping into one of F1’s most high-profile trackside roles as she becomes Haas’ race engineer for the 2025 season.

So, what exactly does a Race Engineer do? Well, it’s no small job. Mueller, who has been paired with the teams new recruit Esteban Ocon, will be the crucial link between the driver and the team.

You’ll hear her voice on those race day team radios, which get broadcast to the world but her role goes way beyond that.

She’ll lead the engineering team for Ocon’s car and oversee its performance, making sure everything’s running smoothly and remains on track.

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu described the new race engineer as “a pretty determined character”.

“Her work ethic is really, really good” he said.

Komatsu even noted how the strong personalities of Mueller and Ocon complement each other as both are extremely driven individuals who push the limits of what’s possible.

Mueller has an impressive background, having a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in automotive engineering from the Technical University of Munich.

In her earlier years, she dreamed of behind behind the wheel and racing against the likes of legendary Michael Schumacher, her journey to reaching this milestone is still nothing short of inspiring.

Mueller and Ocon have already started working together, getting a head start during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi last year.

The new dynamic duo are ready to hit the ground running in season 2025 when they hit Australia’s shores in March for their first race of the year.
