Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone is calling for SA Premier Peter Malinauskas to invest some of the Federal Government’s Social Housing Accelerator funding in the Steel City, saying it is crucial for the region.
This follows Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s announcement of the $2 billion program on the weekend.
The money will be distributed between the states and territories over the next fortnight.
Mayor Stone says it’s a really exciting time in Whyalla, with significant public and private investment in hydrogen and renewable energy, defence, mining and tourism.
The growing industries and new projects are expected to bring 10000 construction workers to the region over the next few years, as Whyalla experiences a critical housing shortage.
