A milestone has been reached in the development of Whyalla’s hydrogen production facility, as the SA Government has named its preferred partners to deliver the Hydrogen Jobs Plan.
ATCO Australia, BOC, and Epic Energy have all committed to an early contractor involvement agreement following a 6-month evaluation of proposals from companies worldwide.
Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone says it is fantastic to have these preferred partners announced and heading to Whyalla soon to commence detailed planning.
Mayor Stone also says it will boost the city’s growth, with the $593-million project expected to generate up to 1,000 jobs during construction and create up to 95 permanent, long-term local positions.
“We also anticipate other businesses will relocate their operations to Whyalla to take advantage of a secure, reliable source of green hydrogen.”
The project’s operations are set to commence in early 2026.
