Whyalla City Council are on a time crunch to relocate their Civic Building operations as the lifespan of the current Civic Building dwindles.
Recent engineering inspections revealed the building – built in 1961 – has eroded concrete and reinforcing due to water ingress.
Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone says the most cost-effective and safe way forward is to move operations to the former Edward John Eyre High School.
Once there, the council will decide whether to continue operations from that site, relocate to an alternate site, or demolish and rebuild at the current City Plaza location.
Mayor Stone says the existing Civic Building will be dealt with to ensure it doesn’t become derelict – with demolition the most likely option.
