As whales have started being sighted in Eyre Peninsula waters, marine teams have been brushing up on their whale disentanglement rescue skills.
National Parks and Wildlife Service SA says disentanglement of large whale species is a complex task and can pose a serious risk for rescue personnel.
This is why two specialised teams have undergone training with a fake whale tail made of aluminium and rubber to simulate a real entanglement.
