A state-wide operation focusing on vulnerable road users took place last week from 10-16 July, shining a spotlight on cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians.

The operation comes after a fatal motorcycle accident in Denial Bay last week.

This year, 67 people have lost their lives on SA roads compared to 41 at the same time last year, including 12 motorcyclists, 3 cyclists and 11 pedestrians.

Operation Vulnerable issued 422 expiations to cyclists, 355 to pedestrians, 41 to e-scooter riders, and 32 to motorcyclists.

Nine-thousand road users were screened during this period, with 36 over the legal alcohol limit and 92 testing positive for drugs.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Graham Goodwin says every person detected by police doing the wrong thing was given an education about road rules to help them make better decisions in the future.
