Port Neill’s town jetty closure will be extended, with additional repairs revealed at a Special Council Meeting on Wednesday.
The District Council of Tumby Bay were advised of rotting bearers, corrosion of critical connections, evidence of white ant activity, and numerous structural elements requiring replacement.
The total increased cost of these repairs will not be finalised until after the inspection, but an additional $600,000 budget expenditure has been approved to ensure the original project objective of prolonging the life of the structure is achieved.
Tumby Bay Mayor Geoff Churchett says although the project’s cost increase is unfortunate, it was a known risk given the age and nature of the jetty.
Mayor Churchett assures the Council has sufficient reserve funds available to ensure project outcomes can be delivered.
