Last weekend’s Whyalla Show was a hit, with many locals noting the huge fireworks display.
Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone said the event came at just the right time.
“We’ve got a degree of uncertainty to do with our Steelworks at the moment, but the crowd flocked to the show, Mayor Stone said.
“Our Whyalla Show has always been renowned for the amount of entertainment that’s put on free… the entertainment alone was about $50,000 worth of entertainment program.”
Mayor Stone says all credit for the success of the show goes to the Whyalla Show Committee, who are now taking a well-deserved break before they start planning for next year.
“I do congratulate the Show Committee.
“Some people seem to get the idea that the Show is a Council event… we’re just a partner, we’re just a supporter, we’ve been doing it for years working with the Show Committee.”
Despite the good turnout, there was reportedly less spending at this year’s show than in previous years.
“Just the economy at the moment, the spending may have been a little bit down on normal years – people were being a little bit more cautious.”
