Port Lincoln’s SES team placed third at the State Rescue Challenge last weekend – the only regional team to place in the Top Five.
Port Lincoln SES Deputy Unit Manager Max Coulson says the team of six – including two ring-ins from Warooka and Strathalbyn – put their experience together to tackle five scenarios.
“There was a person trapped in a tree and needs lowering down, there was a person trapped under a shipping container, there was a small light plane crash scenario,” Coulson explains.
There was also a road crash rescue time trial for teams like Port Lincoln with experience in that area.
The Challenge provided all units the opportunity to mingle with other like-minded people, Coulson saying there was great comradery.
“Whilst it might be a rescue challenge, people don’t stick to their own teams, they do converse with each other, they do chat about rescues they may have done in the past, they do talk about techniques.
“It’s just the ability to be able to catch up with like-minded people who are there to help their community.”
The winner of the Challenge, Metro South, will go on to the National Disaster Rescue Competition.
