It’s National Missing Persons Week, and we’re being encouraged to raise awareness around the issue.
More than 50,000 people go missing each year in Australia, and while most are found safe within a few days, others are never found.
That includes Darryl Norris who’s been missing from Cleve since 2020, and Henry Houston who disappeared from Whyalla in October 2009.
Australia’s Missing Persons Register Director Nicole Morris says this week is a chance for Australians to remember cases and stories.
“A way to continue to push the conscience of people who may know something about a missing persons case, Ms Morris says.
“If it keeps coming up every year, they might think ‘Oh, okay that is still unsolved, maybe I will go to police and tell them what I know’.”
Morris’ new book, ‘Missing’, is being published to help raise awareness.
It features 12 new cases, including that of Gail King who went missing on the Yorke Peninsula in the late 90s.
