House fires expected to spike in winter

With winter upon us, households across the Eyre Peninsula are being warned about the increased risk of fires around the home.

NRMA Insurance’s national claims data reveals a 15% spike in house fires in winter compared to autumn.

NRMA Insurance Claims Executive Manager Natalie Major says the most common cause of house fires is cooking-related activities.

Other common fire starters include air conditioners, fuse boxes, and heating appliances.
