German rocket manufacturer HyImpulse are shipping their new rocket to the Eyre Peninsula, ready to launch in late April or early May.
Australian space exploration company Southern Launch will host HyImpulse at Koonibba Test Range for the maiden launch of their SR75 rocket.
The unique rocket uses propulsion technology which combines parrafin wax and liquid oxygen to create a hybrid rocket.
Southern Launch Communications and Engagement Manager Amy Featherston says this puts the Eyre Peninsula on the space map.
“This is a rocket that actually uses candle wax as its propulsion technology… it mixes candle wax with liquid oxygen and this is the first time this sort of technology has been launched and we’re incredibly excited to bring it to Koonibba on the Eyre Peninsula,” Ms Featherston says.
Southern Launch say this will benefit the Eyre Peninsula.
“Work has just begun on our permanent facilities in Koonibba, which means we’re employing more people on the EP and it just really puts the EP on the map as a global space hub and we’re looking forward to more launches in the future.”
