As Elliston’s groundwater supply diminishes, local Landscape Officers are doing their research.
They’ve been collecting data on wells and sinkholes in the Elliston and Bramfield areas, and have established three rainfall stations.
These efforts are part of a two-year project to determine the long-term viability of the Bramfield groundwater source.
The project will uncover the next steps to ensure the town has fresh drinking water, with potential options including small-scale desalination, a combination of groundwater extraction, or water carting from Polda.
The Department for Environment and Water, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, and Flinders University are contributing to the project, supported by $2 million in funding from the Federal Government’s National Water Grid Fund.
