Ahead of the long weekend, locals are being warned to be careful on the roads as there has been an increase of incidents involving animals.
NRMA Insurance say there were more than 600 animal-related vehicle claims across South Australia last year, making it the highest number of incidents since 2019.
The most common animals causing drivers’ grief are kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and deer.
Executive Manager for Claims at NRMA Insurance Natalie Major says data shows most of these incidents occur on regional roads.
“If you can, local drivers should avoid driving at dawn, dusk or night time, when we know animals are more active, and have regular breaks, and reduce your speed inside posted wildlife areas,” Ms Majors says.
She also advises to avoid swerving your vehicle to avoid an animal.
