Whyalla Mayor Phill Stone has addressed community concerns surrounding the Steelworks.
The Council had a briefing with GFG Alliance on Monday night, 19 August, regarding recent redundancies and a short hot idle of the blast furnace due to an interruption in coking coal supply.
Mayor Stone says he feels for those impacted – particularly those who have lost their jobs and suppliers awaiting payments.
“We know it has a big impact, he says.
“We have confidence, and we accept what we are being told – that GFG are working very tirelessly behind the scenes trying to address their financial situation at the moment and certainly trying to ensure that they can meet their financial obligations.”
GFG Alliance have emphasised that they are committed to a long-term future with Whyalla and are confident they will get back on track.
