For the first time in more than 20 years, the CFS has finished a full bushfire season without losing a single home.
Chief Officer Brett Loughlin says around 13,500 volunteers across the state worked tirelessly to protect what South Australians value most.
“If you know anyone who’s a volunteer in the CFS, give them a pat on the back, give them thanks, because they are some of the best people we have to offer in this state and they do amazing things every day,” Loughlin says.
Volunteers attended 1,340 rural fire incidents this year, and aircraft were a game-changer.
“The support of having a Black Hawk helicopter over on the Eyre Peninsula, another one in Mount Gambier, and the two in the Hills – as well as the fantastic six-wing bombing fleet and our aviation support aircraft that do the observation and command and control tasking – it’s just incredible.”
