Tomorrow, 1 June, kicks off the 30th Annual Australian Salmon Fishing Championship, which will run until 31 August.
From beaches between Sheringa and Mount Camel, fishermen will angle for award-winning salmon.
Prizes over the three months include $2,000 for the heaviest fish, $1,000 for the second heaviest fish, $500 for the third heaviest fish, and a $50 photo competition.
There will also be weekly mystery weight prizes for $200.
Administrative Officer at the Elliston Information Centre Chloe Rappl says a local woman reeled in the award-winning fish at Talia in 2023.
“Last year, the heaviest fish was caught by Linda Bastick, and that was 4.77 kilos,” Rappl says.
You can weigh your fish in at the Elliston Caravan Park with your entry ticket between 9am and 6pm.
