Flinders MP and Shadow Minister for Police, Sam Telfer, says he has written to Police Minister Joe Szakacs seeking an urgent evaluation of police resourcing in Port Lincoln, after meeting with the local council and police.
New SAPOL data shows 220 offences were committed in the city during January, including 40 reported instances of assault.
In a statement, Mr Telfer says our local police are doing the best they can with the resources they have, but obviously they need more support to keep up with demand across our region, especially in Port Lincoln and Ceduna.
He says he’s written to the Police Minister seeking an evaluation of EP police resourcing to better understand how we can tackle the crime issue in a quick and appropriate way.
The Minister has been contacted for comment.
