The Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board has been working hard to protect Franklin Harbour’s ecosystem as part of the Saltmarsh Threat Abatement and Recovery (STAR) project.
The organisation has been protecting the vulnerable saltmarsh zone at Cowell by removing extensive growth of the African Boxthorn.
Eastern Eyre Peninsula Landscape Officer Liam Anderson says they’ve been targeting the difficult to reach boxthorn’s which can’t be treated from a helicopter.
Mr Anderson says over two days, they treated 793 African Boxthorns in a 79 hectare area – most of which were found in native vegetation.
Another 582 plants were later treated across 35 hectares.
