AIR EP’s agriculture internships have yielded good results, leading to more employment in the local ag sector.
Three interns have completed the program – which began in 2021 – and they gained valuable experience while contributing to local research.
AIR EP Executive Officer Naomi Scholz says she didn’t anticipate the internship would result in a 100 per cent retention rate.
“We thought even if they didn’t want to stay here, at least they would have a connection and be aware of what goes on here, and maybe talk positively about it to other people, and go off and do their careers,” Ms Scholz says.
The newest recruit is Spencer Gulf farmer Alex Busch, who plans to make a difference in the agriculture sector.
“I want to make a positive difference in agriculture, particularly in the management of soils, Mr Busch says.
“I’m excited to be working on the EP with the vast range of landscapes and challenges, which are significantly different from my own area.”
He will spend 2024 working with EPAG Research and AIR EP on local research projects.
