Three finalists for the SA Agricultural Town of the Year Award have been selected, with Kimba on the VIP list alongside Burra and Penola.
Kimba is a major wheat-producing area, and the Department of Primary Industries and Regions says the town of 1,300 people boasts a “strong dedication to innovation, growth and regional development.”
Kimba Mayor Dean Johnson says the town won the award in 2021 and is now vying to be the first multiple winner.
“Kimba has a long history strongly attached to our agricultural roots, so it’s wonderful to again be recognised as a top three finalist in the prestigious Agricultural Town of the Year Award, Mayor Johnson says.
“We have recent examples of incredible sustainability practices, leadership and innovations to demonstrate to the judging panel how resilient and resourceful our community is.
“Hopefully we can again claim this award.”
The top three towns will be visited by a panel of judges next month and the winner will be announced on 24 October.
