There were some exciting findings in recent Winter Shorebird Counts for BirdLife Australia.
A Curlew Sandpiper was seen by an Eastern Eyre Peninsula bird volunteer at the Whyalla Saltpans.
The Eyre Peninsula Landscape Board says it’s especially rare to see this species during winter.

Other noteworthy findings include 140 Red-capped Plovers and 44 Red-necked Stints at Lucky Bay.
The BirdLife Australia National Shorebird Counts reveal population changes and patterns that help the organisation allocate funding and create protection strategies.
They say none of this work would be possible without volunteers.
