Captain Matthew Flinders Finally Laid To Rest

The adventures of Australian Explorer Captain Matthew Flinders have finally come to an end…

After his remains went missing for around 160 years, he was reburied in his hometown in Lincolnshire in the UK over the weekend.

His descendants were joined by dignitaries from Australia and Mauritius, where he was held captive during the Napoleonic wars.

Port Lincoln Mayor Diana Mislov also attended the service.

Flinders named places including Port Lincoln, Gulf St Vincent and Spencer Gulf.

While other locations have been named after him in more recent years, including the Flinders Highway and Flinders Ranges.
