Inspiring locals are set to receive Port Lincoln’s 2024 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards.

One of the recipients is Steve Kemp, who will be presented the Citizen of the Year Award for his fundraising endeavours and passion for the Matthew Flinders Nursing Home – where he volunteers as Chairperson.

“As you get a bit older and greyer and wiser, you realise that we all have to put back into this fantastic community and we all should be doing some community service, Mr Kemp says.

“We’ve got an ageing population, and these people have worked very hard, and we’ve got to make sure that we look after them.”

Another award recipient is Alan Dodd – better known as CJ – taking out Young Citizen of the Year for his work as a role model and advocate for First Nations youth.

“They’re our next generation, Mr Dodd says.

“Plant little seeds in their heads, keep pushing it, and hopefully they start switching on and go the right way.”

St Joseph’s School will receive the Community Event of the Year Award for their school musical, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.
