Locals who live or drive near wind farms dotted around the Eyre Peninsula can rest easy following the release of a new report that confirms the giant turbines have no impact on human health.
The towers have been the target of conspiracy theorists for years, even though scientific studies have confirmed their electromagnetic field levels are lower than what is emitted by most common household electrical devices.
The Australian study involved scientists recreating the infrasound of turbines and playing it through speakers to volunteers in a sleep laboratory, who were also exposed to normal overnight sounds, such as traffic and wind.
Researchers found three days of infrasound had no effect on blood pressure, sleep, hearing and balance, putting to bed suggestions that noise from wind farms can affect sleep and lead to dizziness and nausea, heart problems and mental health issues.
The research was commissioned by the National Health and Medicine Research Council.
